The Guyana Police Force (GPF) says it has received a report containing allegations of rape and threatening behaviour against a senior officer of the Force.
In a brief statement issued today, the GPF said Commissioner of Police Dr. Clifton Hicken has “established a team to conduct a thorough investigation into the allegations”.
“The Guyana Police Force wishes to assure the public that the allegations are being treated with the seriousness they warrant and that the investigation will be conducted professionally, impartially and in accordance with established procedures,” the Force said.
The statement comes after days of questions from members of the media seeking a response from the GPF regarding the allegations against a senior superintendent.
Questions were raised in the WhatsApp group through which the Force shares information with the media about whether the senior officer would be sent on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. Question were also raised about the composition of the investigating team. No responses were provided.
The GPF said it remains committed to ensuring that the investigative process is allowed to proceed fairly and that due process is afforded to all parties involved.
