Ballots in 48 boxes were counted today, at the end of Day Four of the recount of the March General and Regional Elections being conducted at the Arthur Chung Convention Centre (ACCC), Liliendaal, East Coast Demerara. Today’s count takes the overall number of boxes counted to 156.

Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM)’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Yolanda Ward said boxes would have been completed for 14 Region One (Barima/Waini); 11 for Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam); 12 for Region Three (Essequibo Islands/West Demerara); and 11 for Region Four (Demerara/Mahaica).

At the end of yesterday’s operation, some 43 boxes were completed.
With regards to tabulation, Ward said that 129 Statement of Recount (SORs) for the General Election were completed and 115 for Regional.

The PRO said that the Commission took the decision today for the tabulation to commence from 4pm; an hour earlier than what was previously agreed.
She said, too, that the Commission decided that the Observation Report (OR) will also be read out. Previously, it was being exhibited, but there were complaints that the contents of the ORs were not discernable.

Ward said that the Commission noted the need for arrangements to be made for persons living with disabilities to be able to witness the exercise. This would include the usage of sign language, among other things.
