Guyana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hugh Todd is reported to have met virtually with his Venezuelan counterpart Jorge Arreaza earlier this afternoon, to discuss the status of Guyanese registered fishing vessels – the Lady Nayera and the Sea Wolf and crew which were detained by the Venezuelan Coast Guard. Todd’s meeting with Arreaza, who serves as Venezuela’s Minister of the People’s Power for Foreign Affairs was slated to begin at 16:00h.

Earlier today, Venezuela indicated that it is open to “sincere” dialogue with Guyana. But essentially stated that it is not willing to budge from the positions it currently holds; those positions Guyana deems illegal.
