Police in Regional Division 4’C’ are probing a fatal accident which resulted in a 56-year-old woman of Annandale Railway Embankment, East Coast Demerara (EBD) losing her life.
The accident occurred on Monday about 18:15 hrs at the Lusignan Railway Embankment, East Coast Demerara (EBD). It involved a motor vehicle with trade plate (KICS-2) driven by a 25-year-old woman of Non Pariel, East Coast Demerara (EBD), and the now deceased 56-year-old woman, Pulwantie Ramjan.
Enquiries disclosed that the vehicle was proceeding east along the northern side of the Lusignan Railway Embankment (alleged at a rate of 50KM/PH) when the driver recounted that at a close distance, the 56-year-old woman crossed the road from north to south, into the path of the vehicle.
The 56-year-old pedestrian was flung into the air and subsequently fell onto the road’s surface, where she received injuries about her body.
Emergency Medical Technicians were summoned to the scene, where they pronounced 56-year-old Pulwantie Ramjan dead.
The woman’s body was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Mortuary.
A breathalyser test was conducted on the female driver who showed no trace of alcohol. Further investigations are ongoing.
