Traffic Chief, Senior Superintendent Mahendra Singh has disclosed that some 2,443 speeding tickets were issued last month. Each ticket carries a fine of $7,500, which translates to over $18M.

Singh’s revelation comes against the backdrop of some 171 traffic deaths reported for the year so far. The Chief noted that the equipment/speed guns in use are calibrated and administered by competently trained traffic ranks.

Just yesterday alone, 362 cases were made, with speeding alone accounting for 70. Some 280 cases were made on Sunday with 50 instances of speeding reported.

The force is also continuing its education programmes via lectures at schools, drivers, bar owners, and those gathered at entertainment spots across the country. The sustained effort is aimed at ensuring full compliance with laws and respect for the road and all categories of road users.

Speeding is not the answer, and driving under the influence is not an option, the force said.
