Vice President, Dr Bharrat Jagdeo recently revealed that the government’s e-ticketing system is winning public support, adding that it will soon expand to flag vehicles without up-to-date fitness certificates and insurance.

The Vice President noted that the automated cameras which were rolled out recently, has ensured that no one is above the law, as it reduces bribery and enforces traffic laws more fairly. He said, “No one can request a bribe you know, you can’t negotiate with a camera, so if you’re a politician or you’re the commissioner of police and you speed you’ll get the ticket… you can’t go and say i’m an important person or not…”

Currently, the state-of-the-art system, powered by advanced speed cameras and radar speed signs connected to cloud-based infrastructure, detects and tickets speeding violations.

This initiative is part of the Safe Road Intelligent System (SRIS) Project, a collaborative effort between the Guyana Police Force and the National Data Management Authority (NDMA). As part of this project, new radar speed signs and speed cameras have been installed across Guyana to monitor vehicular speeds and traffic patterns.

The automated speed cameras detect vehicles exceeding the speed limit, and tickets are generated automatically without manual processing. If a driver’s contact details are registered with the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA), they will receive a notification via SMS or email with details of the violation. If their contact details are not registered, a physical ticket will be delivered to their address.
