Admitting that it is highly unlikely former President, David Granger will join him on the campaign trail as a show of support, PNCR Leader, Aubrey Norton still expressed absolute certainty that he enjoys the confidence of his predecessor in leading the party to victory at the September 1 poll.

At a recent press conference, Norton was in high praise of Granger and appeared to be directly addressing assumptions that the former president was not in his corner.

For the removal of all doubt, Norton categorically told the press that he stands by Granger’s leadership of the country during the 2015 to 2020 period. Norton said Granger “managed Guyana properly” during his five years in office, hence the People’s National Congress Reform subscribes to his philosophy.

In fact, Norton said one of his first instructions as Opposition Leader was to ensure all PNCR Members of Parliament highlight the work done by the Granger regime. He said this was done.

“In our assessment, the five years that he managed Guyana, he managed it properly. Guyana was moving upwards and so Granger continues to be an asset.

“I still read many of the publications he would have produced at the time and I look at the reports that were done under him on Guyana,” said Norton. He even noted that many of the policies the PNCR arrived at today were informed by Granger’s thinking.

Norton therefore noted that while there has been no one-on-one contact with the former party leader, no effort is spared to ensure his teachings on governance live on. The opposition leader also hastened to add that while there was some degree of imperfections in Granger’s tenure, a new PNCR regime would ensure those are minimized.
