The A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) Coalition today launched its 2025 manifesto and a “Compact with Guyana,” committed to ensuring the country’s oil resources are maximised for the benefit of all citizens.
A copy of APNU’s Compact with Guyana outlines the party’s vision to transform the nation by prioritising the well-being of citizens regardless of race, ethnicity, political affiliation, age, religion, social status, or gender.
APNU pledges to address issues such as the squandering of oil wealth, high cost of living and poverty, inequality, and the mismanagement of the economy. It also promises to address human rights violations, violence against women, underperforming and understaffed health and education systems, weaponisation and criminalisation of the state, and escalating threats to Guyana’s territorial integrity and national security.
To tackle these challenges, the party said it will manage the country’s oil wealth and other revenues in a manner that ensures natural resources and income belong to the citizens.
APNU has committed to guaranteeing human development and maximising benefits for Guyanese without compromising the country’s attractiveness as an investment destination. The party also emphasised adherence to strict fiscal and public financial management frameworks.
Further, the coalition affirmed its intention to safeguard Guyana’s national interests while capitalising on opportunities for trade, investment, and international cooperation. It envisioned a new economy founded on the principle that greater participation by people as workers, producers, wealth creators, consumers, investors, and citizens increases the likelihood of building a vibrant and prosperous society and economy.
“No citizen must be deprived or denied their rights due to poverty, deprivation, unemployment, underemployment, low income, social marginalisation, or discrimination,” it states.
Furthermore, APNU promised to establish an investment- and demand-driven economic model, moving away from the current trickle-down approach. It underscored that inclusive growth and shared prosperity are the best pathways to eradicate poverty, insecurity, and deprivation, while ensuring living wages for all workers and livable incomes for households.
Plans are also in place to protect Guyana against environmental threats and natural disasters in the context of global climate change.
Other commitments include the creation of a comprehensive social protection system based on the principles that social protection is a right of every citizen, that all Guyanese should have their basic needs met regardless of circumstances, and that social protection must be a lifetime guarantee, from womb to tomb.
Deepening democracy and governance is also part of the plan, aiming to establish a parliament that functions effectively, an electoral system that inspires trust, governance citizens can trust, and local government that delivers tangible results.
APNU’s blueprint also involves transforming communities into vibrant, attractive, environmentally sustainable, healthy, safe, child-friendly, and continually improving spaces.
Notably, the party highlights its commitment to meeting development goals by 2030, including eliminating poverty, ending hunger, and achieving food security.
“Our manifesto is the culmination of several years of outreach and listening to the Guyanese people and other stakeholders. It has also benefited from the advice of experts. This document is not intended to provide our full analysis but rather serves as a basis for ongoing conversations with the Guyanese people and stakeholders,” the party said in a statement to the press.
