The Minister of Home Affairs, in collaboration with the Guyana Police Force, commissioned three new police stations and an Information Technology Centre last Saturday in Regional Division 9 (Upper Takutu–Upper Essequibo).

The newly commissioned facilities are:

1. Annai Police Station – North Rupununi
2. Karasabai Police Station – South Pakaraimas
3. Lethem Police Station – Central Rupununi
4. Information Technology Centre – Lethem Central

The ceremonies were led by the Minister of Home Affairs Robeson Benn, supported by Deputy Commissioner ‘Operation’, Errol Watts; Regional Division 9 Commander Superintendent Mohamed Ally; Regional Chairman Bryan Allicock; Toshaos of the respective villages; Community Leaders; Religious leaders; Members of the Private Sector Committees; Community Policing Groups from across the region; and other officials.

Minister Robeson Benn emphasised the importance of modern police facilities in strengthening public safety, building community trust, and reducing crime. He also praised the recruitment of more Amerindian police officers in Region 9 as a key step toward inclusive security.

Deputy Commissioner Errol Watts highlighted ongoing infrastructure improvements within the Guyana Police Force, including the construction of new stations and the upgrading of existing facilities. He underscored the need for high-quality service delivery by ranks to ensure public confidence.

Regional Division 9 Commander Superintendent M. Ally presented updates on the reduction in crime and traffic offences in Region 9, assuring residents that the police are working closely with communities to maintain safety. He also noted that the Information Technology Centre will provide free computer training for both youths and adults, enhancing digital literacy in the region.

The events concluded with ribbon-cuttings, plaque unveilings, and the handing over of safety helmets to the Traffic Department and sports gear to each Police Station. Approximately three hundred persons attended. (Article and photos extracted from the Guyana Police Force’s Facebook page)
