Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo has accused Police Commissioner Clifton Hicken of allowing sanctioned and indicted businessman, Azruddin Mohamed to dive and flaunt his controversial Lamborghini without insurance.

Speaking at his weekly press conference at Freedom House, Jagdeo pointed out that the Guyana Police Force (GPF) allowed the We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) leader to drive the Lamborghini to the first sitting of the 13th Parliament of Guyana, despite the vehicle not being insured.

He labeled this as a clear double standard, noting that an ordinary citizen would face serious consequences for driving without insurance.

“If you hit down someone on the road without insurance, you’re in big trouble. But as I said before, the arrogance and impunity, he drives the Lamborghini to the Parliament to show Jagdeo that he can break the laws of the country. You could show me anywhere. You could send me a picture of your Lamborghini. I don’t give a damn about your Lamborghini,” the vice president said.

Jagdeo added that he would hold Commissioner Hicken personally responsible if anyone is injured or killed by the vehicle while it is on the road. “Hicken should face criminal charges too, because he allows it. Nobody else could do that. Not a single person in the country can do that sort of thing because it’s illegal,” the vice president stated.

To this end, he reminded that Guyana’s laws are applicable to everyone despite their wealth and how it was obtained.

Moreover, Jagdeo displayed a cashier’s check showing that US$680,085 was reportedly paid for the Lamborghini in the United States. “This is the same Lamborghini that he declared here for US$75,000,” he said.

Jagdeo described Mohamed’s conduct as brazen and disrespectful to law and order. “If a person could flaunt something like that, he’s showing the finger to the country, not me, not to Jagdeo, to law and order. That is what he’s doing, he’s showing the finger to the country, not to me. I don’t give a [damn] about his Lamborghini, but this is criminal behavior and flaunting it in people’s face,” he stated.

Jagdeo added that Mohamed’s conduct reflects an attitude of arrogance and the belief that he can act with impunity in Guyana.
