ExxonMobil says members of the public can raise complaints and concerns about its oil and gas activities in Guyana through a formal grievance mechanism, according to the environmental impact assessment (EIA) for its proposed Longtail project.

The company said the mechanism forms part of its stakeholder engagement process and is designed to address issues arising from exploration, project development and ongoing operations.

According to ExxonMobil, the system provides a structured channel for community members and other stakeholders to submit feedback, file complaints, seek guidance or make requests related to its activities in Guyana. It said submissions are intended to be handled in a prompt and respectful manner.

ExxonMobil said information about the grievance process is shared during stakeholder engagements, both verbally and in writing, and through periodic social media updates and its website.

Longtail is the eighth development planned by Exxon for execution offshore Guyana. The EIA is one of the requirements for government approval, alongside a field development plan. Longtail is part of the company’s continued push to develop resources discovered in the Stabroek Block, where multiple projects are already producing oil at rates exceeding 900,000 barrels per day.

The Longtail project is unique, in that it will be the first of the developments to produce resources from a natural gas field. While gas will be produced from other fields through projects already approved, those were oil fields since oil makes up the majority of the resources present.

Longtail seeks to produce 1.2 billion cubic feet of gas per day and 250,000 barrels per day of condensate.
