The Government and Opposition parties collided head-on in Linden, Region 10, on Tuesday as the administration hosted a public outreach while protesters gathered outside demanding the resignation of Public Utilities and Aviation Minister Deodat Indar and Public Works Minister Bishop Juan Edghill over the sinking of the MV Barima.
The Opposition demonstration, led by the We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) movement, comes just over two weeks after the MV Barima tragedy, which claimed the lives of at least 100 people.
The Government’s outreach is being led by Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo, who, along with several ministers, is meeting residents at Watooka House to hear concerns and address issues affecting the region.
Outside the venue, scores of demonstrators from the traditionally opposition-supporting region are protesting, calling for the dismissal of the two ministers over the Government’s handling of the maritime disaster.
“Who must go? Edghill and Indar” is one of the chants as Opposition Leader and US-Sanctioned Businessman, Azruddin Mohamed, leads the protestors to the gate of the building where they were prohibited from entering.
