Kanand Ojha has been charged with murder in connection with the death of Nephi “Noel” Luther, who was killed in Georgetown in July 2015.
Ojha appeared on Monday, September 21, 2026, before Chief Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, where the charge was read to him.
He was not required to enter a plea and was subsequently remanded to prison.
The matter was adjourned to October 12, 2026.
Ojha was arrested on Friday, September 18, by ranks of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters after returning to Guyana from the United States.
Luther, 20, was a male sex worker who died after being shot in Georgetown on July 22, 2015.
Ojha had been wanted by Guyanese authorities in connection with the case and was previously arrested in Queens, New York, in September 2025.
Another man, Ron “Andel” Forde, was previously convicted of manslaughter in connection with Luther’s death and sentenced to 20 years in prison.
The murder charge against Ojha remains before the court.
