The $1.3 billion project commenced in February 2026. R&B Investment Incorporated is executing the project.
It is expected to be completed within its eight-month timeframe.
Speaking to the Department of Public Information (DPI) on Tuesday, the company’s Public Relations Officer, Leona McIntyre, said that despite challenges posed by weather conditions, work has advanced significantly, with the project now 80 per cent complete.
“Because of the climate… the rain, heat and dust, we have had some hardships when it comes to the project. However, as you can see, we are currently 80 per cent complete, so we are hoping to even close off the project before October of 2026,” McIntyre said.
The project includes the widening of approximately 800 metres of roadway from the railway embankment towards the GUYSUCO estate, transforming the existing two-lane road into a four-lane access road.
Paving works are scheduled to commence next week, marking another major phase in the development.
McIntyre explained that the upgraded road will provide access to the LBI Young Professionals Scheme, which was expanded to accommodate approximately 1,000 residents, while also improving connectivity to LBI, Chateau Margot and Success.
“It will be serving as the main access road to the LBI Young Professionals Scheme, as well as LBI, Chateau Margot and Success, with entrances to each community,” she said.
Beyond the road expansion, the project is also strengthening key utility infrastructure along the corridor.
The Guyana Power and Light (GPL) poles are being upgraded from wooden structures to concrete poles.
Similarly, the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) network is being improved, replacing six-inch pipes with eight-inch pressure pipes.
Once completed, the upgraded corridor is expected to provide a wider and more resilient access route while supporting the continued expansion of residential development in the area. (Department of Public Information)
