Police are probing a fire of unknown orgin that occurred about 10:00hrs at Parika Salem First Koker, East Bank Essequibo which destroyed two motor lorry (Fuel Tankers) owned by Nazhir Khan of Tuschen New Scheme, East Bank Essequibo.

Enquiries disclosed that about 09:00hrs, the two motor lorries which were driven by Ramsharan Dean, a 38- year-old resident of Stewartville, W.C.D and Zahir Villa, a 40-year-old resident of Tuschen New Scheme, E.B.E, respectively, were parked at the Parika Salem first Koker discharging fuel.

According to the 38 year-old driver, he left the vehicle and went about 25 feet away from it. Upon his return, he saw smoke coming from behind his cabin area which quickly burst into a huge fire, spreading to the other motor lorry.

The other driver, Villa, in an effort to save one of the motor lorries, jumped into the cabin and tried to turn off the vehicle but received burn injuries to his hand. He was rushed to Leonora Cottage Hospital by public spirited citizens.

The fire was subsequently extinguished by firefighters.

An investigation ongoing.
