The Guyana Power and Light Incorporated (GPL) has introduced another technology-related service as it continues to improve delivery of services to its clientele. Divisional Director of Commercial Services, Rhonda La Fargue says customers and other stakeholders can now report emergencies by sending WhatsApp messages to 608-9090.

“You can WhatsApp your queries, your report or your emergency to us and you will receive a reference number just as if you had called in. It will be actioned by our emergency crew in the same manner as if you called in free. We are working on a number of initiatives to make it easy for customers to contact us in the event of an emergency if they have a query, using technology,” La Fargue said.

The company also allows customers to text a combination of their Account number and Client number to telephone 624-0400 or 608-8400 to get their Current Bill Amount and Due Date, as well as their Last Payment Amount and Last Payment Date.

The WhatsApp meter-read feature allows customers to take a picture of their meter on the read date and WhatsApp that figure to the company as an actual reading. However, access to the meter must be granted within three (3) months for verification. The number for WhatsApp meter-read is 608-8575. (Modified from the Department of Information)
