One year after a former employee of Guyana Water Incorporation (GWI) was accused of defrauding the company of over a million dollar, he was this afternoon slapped with 18 fraud charges.

Dexter Mckenzie ,48, of 146 Sixth Street, Albertown, Georgetown appeared before Principal Magistrate Sherdel Marcus- Issacs in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

The first charge stated that on May 2, 2018 and May 2, 2018 at Vlissingen Road, while being entrusted by GWI with three Republic Bank cheques valued $214,101, in order that he may give same to Shane Samuels, he fraudulently converted same to his own use and benefit.

It was further alleged that between May 7, 2018 and October 19, 2018 at Vlissingen Road, while being entrusted by GWI with four Republic Bank cheques valued $285,765, in order that he may give same to Collete Clarke, he fraudulently converted same to his own use and benefit.

The other charge read that between May 18, 2018 and July 27, 2018 at Vlissingen Road, while being entrusted  GW with three Republic Bank cheques valued $148,500, in order that he may give same to Dexter Forde, he fraudulently converted same to his own use and benefit.

It was further alleged that between August 19, 2018 and October 19, 2018, Vlissengen Road, while being entrusted by GWI with four Republic Bank cheques valued $263,270, in order that he may give same to Luna James, he fraudulently converted same to his own use and benefit.

The last charge alleged that between June 26, 2018 and July 27, 2018 at Vlissengen Road, while being entrusted by GWI with four Republic Bank cheques valued $232,010, in order that he may give same to Randy Hope, he fraudulently converted same to his own use and benefit.

According to information, Mckenzie was the supervisor of customer experience service and during the periods mentioned in the charge was given 18 cheques to encash at a Republic Bank outlet.

Only recently, an audit was conducted and several discrepancies were discovered, hence an investigation was carried out and Mckenzie was arrested and charged for the offence.

The Prosecutor did not oppose to bail being granted to the Mckenzie and he was released on $102,000 bail.

His matter was adjourned until April 15,2019.
