A 20-year-old construction worker was tragically killed in an accident this morning at Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
The accident happened shortly after 04:00 hrs.
The deceased has been identified as Ryan Deokie, a construction worker of Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara (EBD). He died while receiving treatment at the Diamond Diagnostic Centre. Two persons who were passengers in the young man’s car, suffered minor injuries.
The Guyana Standard has been informed that the 20-year-old who was heading home at the time of the accident, reportedly lost control of his vehicle and slammed into a jeep that was heading to Georgetown.
The vehicle then slammed into a minibus that was heading in the same direction. The young man was pulled from the vehicle in an unconscious state and taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre.
The drivers of the jeep and minibus were taken into police custody. Police suspect that the 20-year-old might have been under the influence of alcohol when he lost control of his car.
The investigation is ongoing.
