An 18-year-old was killed and his parents wounded this morning at Timehri, East Bank Demerara (EBD) by a group of angry labourers.

The deceased has been identified as David Toney of Lot 76 Alliance Road Timehri, EBD. He was stabbed to the abdomen. His parents, Mark Toney and Judieth Hosea, sustained chop wounds about their body and had to be treated at the Diamond Diagnostic Centre.

The Guyana Standard has been informed that three persons have since been arrested for the death of the teen and wounding of his parents.

According to information received, the deceased’s parents would usually hire young men in the neighbourhood to load their cabbages in a canter truck to bring to Georgetown. This morning however, the young men turned up at the victim’s home and there was an argument over payment between the older Toney and two of his workers.

Reports are that a fight started between the older Toney and the men when his son intervened and was stabbed to the body. The deceased’s mother also sustained injuries.

The suspects were arrested in the same village shortly after the incident.
