The bandit who was shot dead early this morning during a robbery at Crown Street, Queenstown has been identified.
He is 35-year-old Nigel Wellington also called Nigel Waldron of Mocha, East Bank Demerara (EBD).

Wellington was identified by his mother late this afternoon at the Lyken Funeral Home. She claimed that she had not seen the deceased for the past two months.

Wellington was killed by a security guard attached to the El Sol Hostel when he attempted to rob a Cuban National as he (victim) was entering the premises around 03:00 hrs.

It is suspected that the deceased’s accomplice escaped.

The Guyana Standard has been informed that the deceased had been charged on numerous occasions for armed robberies.

In January 2018, he robbed a 22-year-old woman at South Ruimveldt and then forced her to perform oral sex on him.

In that same year, he was charged with three counts of armed robberies.
