Having undergone numerous surgeries on her eyes after an acid attack in 2017 left her blind and facial features melted, an overjoyed Shondell Williamson thanks her donors for giving her the gift of sight.

Williamson is the 28-year-old woman who was doused with a corrosive substance allegedly by the father of her two children two years ago. Details in her case file reveal that on January 19, 2017, in New Amsterdam, Shondell’s ex-partner disguised himself as a female and doused her with the substance that disfigured her entire face and upper body.

The man responsible for her condition, Alfred De-Jonge, had journeyed from Linden to Berbice after Shondell had finally summoned the courage to end their 10-year abusive relationship. He doused her while shouting out, “If I can’t have you, no one will.” He is now facing an attempted murder charge and remains behind bars, awaiting trial.

As for Shondell, SHEA Foundation which is a publicly funded charity based in the United States of America stepped in and was able to ensure her travel to the US where she underwent a number of vision correction and reconstructive surgeries. Today, the mother of two—who said her dream is to see her two young children again—can now see clearly.

The organization in a social media post thanked all of Shondell’s donors. “For those of you who reached into your pockets and gave a donation to help Shondell, this is your miracle; this is your blessing.”

Having been through one of the most painful and traumatizing situations in her lifetime, the young mother plans to use her experience to empower other victims of domestic violence. She hopes that by sharing her experience and knowledge on domestic violence, victims will be able to move on as early as possible and not suffer any harm.
