A Kamarang porter who allegedly stabbed a man to the neck with a beer bottle in revenge for an incident that occurred some two years ago was today charged with murder.

Clinton Alleyne, 21, of Kamarang, Upper Mazaruni, was not required to plead to the indictable charge which alleged that, between May 30, 2019 and May 31, 2019 at Kamarang Landing, Upper Mazaruni, he murdered Rodwell Joseph.

The unrepresented man appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

Facts presented by Police Prosecutor Shellon Daniels stated that the men were known to each other. She noted that two years ago Joseph dealt Alleyne several lashes about his body with a piece of wood.

The prosecutor added that during the period mentioned in the charge, Alleyne was at a shop consuming alcohol when he saw Joseph walking past, heading in the direction of his home.

The court heard that Alleyne then confronted Joseph and an argument ensued between them. He then became annoyed and broke a beer bottle and stabbed Joseph in the region of his neck.

The injured man was then rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The matter was then reported, an investigation was carried out, and Alleyne was arrested and charged with the offence.

The magistrate remanded Alleyne to prison until June 17 when he will make an appearance in the Kamarang Magistrate’s Court.
