The Guyana Police Force (GPF) has issued a wanted bulletin for a Brazilian national who shot one of its ranks to the chest during a raid at a camp in the Aranka Backdam, Cuyuni River, Essequibo, on May 26, last.

The wanted man has been identified as Francisco Lima De Augiar, 54, whose last known address was listed as Lot 45 High Street, Bourda, Georgetown. The police said that De Augiar is wanted for the attempted murder of Constable Anthony Weekes who is attached to the Bartica Police Station.

The Guyana Standard has been informed that around 05:30hrs on May 26, last, Weekes along with two other policemen, acting on information, went into the mining camp at Aranka in search of illegal firearms.

According to information received, the workers at the camp allowed the ranks to search their camp. However, when the policemen proceeded to search the sleeping quarter of Augiar, they came under heavy fire.

Weekes was shot to the chest and had to be rushed to the Bartica Hospital before being transferred to a private hospital in the city. The shooter managed to escape but the workers at the camp assisted the ranks.

During the raid at the camp, 36 rounds of .38 ammunition were discovered and a suspected warhead was also found stashed in an empty fuel barrel that was inside of the shooter’s sleeping quarters.
