Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus today committed a man to stand trial in the High Court for the rape of a 15-year-old girl.
Aduke Josiah, 33, of Sophia, was on trial in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
At the conclusion of the trial, the magistrate ruled that sufficient evidence was led against Josiah. Hence, he will face a judge and jury at the next practicable sitting of the Demerara Assizes.
It is alleged that on August 8, 2018, he engaged in sexual activity with a child under the age of 16.
According to information, on the day in question, the teen was home alone when Josiah forced his way into her room and raped her. He remains out on $300,000 High Court bail pending his hearing and determination of the trial.
