A woman is now dead and two persons missing after the boat they were travelling in late last night collided with another vessel in the Essequibo River.

The dead woman has been identified as Sherry Khan. 54.

The Guyana Standard has been informed that the boat left the Parika, East Bank Essequibo (EBE)’s stelling around 17:00 hrs yesterday with eight passengers—destined for Buck Hall, Essequibo when the tragedy happened.

According to information received, the two boats were heading in opposite directions when the larger vessel, which had about two persons, collided with the other boat causing two of its passengers to fall overboard. These two persons are now missing.

Additionally, three passengers sustained injuries after the propeller from the larger boat cut them. They were rescued by the occupants of the larger vessel and taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital for treatment.
