Two Mondays ago, he was appointed Commander of region 10 and already, Superintendent Hugh Winter and his ranks have been busy—from morning exercises to engaging with members of the various communities.

During an interview with Guyana Standard, the new commander said that the welfare of his ranks is among his top priorities. One of his initiatives on this front is ensuring that he engages in daily exercise with ranks from the various stations in the region under his command.

As the ranks wrap up their fitness walk, they meet and interact with members of the public on their way back to their respective stations. “By exercising, we get a chance to interact with villagers so in a way, we exercise and solve problems in the community,” the commander said

Some of the villages that fall under Winter’s command include Linden, Ebini, and Ituni.

“The previous commanders have managed to keep crime in this region low so my task now is to continue to keep all illegal activities at a minimal and we will do this by serving and protecting the citizens,” Winter said.

He said too that he has introduced an open-door policy in the region where residents can visit him without restrictions. “If the public wants to meet with the commander, my door is always open to them and I always try to see how best we can solve whatever problem they may have.”

Winter told Guyana Standard that he and his ranks will continue to build strong relations with youths in the communities. Presently, ranks are working with 497 youths in region 10.
