Residents of Anna Regina recently witnessed the reopening of the newly refurbished Post Office.

At a cost of G$12.6M, the renovated facility now caters for wheelchair-bound customers and persons with other disabilities.

The Ministry of Telecommunications indicated that the building is also equipped with extended seating facility, particularly designed for the comfort of senior citizens; upgraded washrooms and a newly installed ICT hub that will be fully functional in a matter of weeks.

The opening of the Anna Regina Post Office also commemorated another year of postal service; an industry that existed for more than 200 years and is acknowledged globally on October 9, World Post Day.

Minister of Telecommunication, Cathy Hughes, in her featured address, told the gathering that the reopening of the post office signified another noteworthy stride by the government to deliver convenient, quality postal service to citizens. She said that the facility has been upgraded to ensure optimum service delivery that would prevent residents from having to travel far distances to conduct transactions.

“The intention is to use every available facility to take public services to citizens and to save them the cost and inconvenience of travelling outside of their communities or regions to access them.” “To this end, the aim remains to renovate and rehabilitate initially, key post offices that would be able to deliver services to its maximum number of persons.”

Minister Hughes had announced at another event that all rehabilitated post offices will be equipped with ICT facilitation. She told Anna Regina that the government is still keen on this initiative which would also serve as an alternate income generator for the post office.
