A sailor attached to the Transport and Harbours’ Department was murdered last night after he asked a man to leave the Parika, East Bank Essequibo (EBE) stelling.

The deceased has been identified as Shurlon Errol Cutting, 48, of Lot 2529 Layou Street North Ruimveldt, Georgetown. He was stabbed under the left armpit and died while receiving treatment at the Leonora Cottage Hospital.

The police have only identified the suspect as a 28-year-old Labourer of Ithaca, West Bank Berbice (WBB). He was treated at the aforementioned hospital after sustaining injuries to the left size abdomen and left knee. He is now in custody.

According to information received, an argument erupted between the two men after the deceased asked the suspect to leave the stelling around 18:30 hrs last night.

Based on information received, following the argument, the deceased armed himself with a piece of wood and reportedly dealt the suspect several lashes, causing the 28-year-old man to retaliate by stabbing the sailor with a pair of scissors.

The sailor instantly collapsed and loss consciousness. Both men were taken to the hospital where Cutting died.

Investigation is ongoing.
