The Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GTT) has successfully completed another round of its Leadership Development Programme (LDP) training, this time, with a batch of 20 employees.

GTT’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Justin Nedd, explained that the programme is a flagship initiative to build capacity in the workplace and to equip employees with the skills necessary to improve on their leadership.

“The programme is geared towards changing the notion that directors, supervisors or managers are the only leaders in the company. Each member of staff at GTT is a leader, and we want to instill that principle in all employees so they will feel empowered to take the company and their personal lives to another level,” said Nedd.

People Operation- Training and Development Business Partner at GTT, Diedre Davis-Backer said the training programme is necessary for large companies such as GTT.

“This is a significant investment by GTT to promote growth and continuous development in the workplace. GTT aims to be the workplace of choice by 2020 and we believe the company can move closer to this by empowering and investing in those under its employ,” explained Davis-Backer.

Facilitator of the training, Phyllis Reid-Jarvis applauded GTT for investing in its people and charged all LDP graduates to uphold the guiding principles of the programme.

“GTT’s Leadership Development Program is entering into its 5th year. This speaks to the company’s commitment to the personal and professional development of all or its employees – and the value of each individual,” the facilitator stated.

The one-year intense training programme caters to one-on-one executive coaching, group coaching sessions and face-to-face instructor-led training sessions. Some key focus areas include leadership skills, coaching skills, emotional intelligence, and team building.

The 20 participants are expected to receive their certification in December. This is the fourth batch of GTT professionals to graduate from the programme since its launch in 2015. The next LDP training progamme will commence early next year.
