A mason, whom the court heard was recently released from prison after serving 48 months, was today remanded for robbing three persons.

The first charge stated that on August 30 at Kuru Kururu, while being in the company of another and armed with a cutlass and hammer, Joel Morrison broke into the house of Aubrey Richardson and stole a phone valued $52,000 and other items valuing $112,000.

It was further alleged that on the same day, and at the same location while being in the company of another and armed with a cutlass and hammer, he robbed Velencia Taylor of a phone valued $60,000.

The last charge stated that on the same day and at the same location, he robbed Felicia Roach of a phone valued $50,000 and other items valued $58,000.

Morrison pleaded not guilty to the charges after they were read to him.

Facts presented by Police Prosecutor Brian Sukhna, in relation to Richardson, stated that on the day in question, the victim secured his home and went to bed. However, around 00:15 hrs, the victim was awakened by the defendant and another individual who was standing in his bedroom armed with a cutlass and a hammer. The defendant then relieved the victim of his articles and made good his escape.

In relation to the other two matters, the victims were walking when they were approached by Morrison who relieved them of their valuables.

The matters were reported and following an investigation, he was arrested and charged for the offences.

The Prosecutor objected to bail being granted to the defendant on the grounds of the serious nature of the offence and the fact that he was positively identified by the victims as the person who robbed them.

The prosecutor also highlighted the fact that Morrison was charged in 2015 and was sentenced to 48 months.

The Magistrate remanded Morrison to prison until November 8 when he will appear at the Providence Magistrate’s Courts.
