The People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) has formally written to the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) requesting a probe into the party’s claim that some US$5M, has to date, been passed through the Public Security Minister, Khemraj Ramjattan overseas bank account.

This disclosure was made today by the party’s leader, Bharrat Jagdeo, who added that the PPP/C is hoping to get an early response from the unit on the matter.

The PPP/C, via a Facebook post, on December 24, 2019 wrote: “We are calling on the Financial Intelligence Unit and other relevant state agencies to investigate the origin of money contained in a bank account established by Khemraj Ramjattan in 2016 at the Capital One Bank in Valley Stream New York. Over US$5M has passed through it to date.”

Subsequent to that post, the Guyana Standard reached out to Minister Ramjattan to ascertain the veracity of the claim, to which he responded: “Boooy!” before disconnecting the call.
