Months after a miner and his mother were jointly charged for trafficking cocaine and marijuana, the miner was this morning slapped with similar charges.

Twenty-seven-year-old Edgar Lawson of 173 Charlotte Street, Georgetown, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts where he was slapped with two charges.

The first charge stated that on January 19, 2020 at Charlotte Street, Georgetown, he had in his possession 28 grams of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

It was further alleged that on the same day and at the same location, he had in his possession 28 grams of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.

An unrepresented Lawson pleaded not guilty to both charges.

Facts presented by Prosecutor Quinn Harris stated that on the day in question, at around 10:20 hrs, ranks after receiving information, proceeded to the residence of the defendant. Upon arrival, they found a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be narcotics and a whitish substance suspected to be cocaine in a bag. The defendant then made good his escape by jumping over a fence. He was later arrested and charged for the offence. The prosecutor objected to bail being granted to the defendant on the grounds of the prevalence of the offence and the penalty the charge attracts. The prosecutor also highlighted the fact that the defendant was recently changed for a similar offence.

He was remanded to prison until January 31.

Last March, Lawson and his mother, Champadi Lawson, were placed before the courts for trafficking cocaine and marijuana.
They appeared before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly and they were slapped with two charges.

The first charge alleges that on February 25, 2019 at Lot 173 Charlotte Street, Georgetown, they had in their possession 132 grams of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.

It was alleged that on the same date and at the same location, the defendants had in their possession 23 grams of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

Both persons pleaded not guilty to the charges after read to them and were released on bail.
