Nick Skeete called ‘Jason Blair’ and ‘Shatta’ was this afternoon found guilty of raping a woman between July 8 and 9, 2016 in Essequibo.

Skeete was charged for the offence along with Harold Anderson and John Lee Edmond.

Edmond was freed of the charge this afternoon after the jury returned a 10-2 not guilty verdict; he was represented by lawyer Maxwell McKay.

Meanwhile, Anderson was freed of the charge on Monday after trial Judge Jo Ann Barlow upheld a no-case submission by his lawyer, Ravindra Mohabir.

Guyana Standard understands that the woman, who was 20 at the time, had just left a disco in the county and was waiting on a taxi to get home.

When the taxi pulled up, Skeete lashed the driver in the head and dragged the woman to a swampy area where he had sex with her without her consent.

Skeete, who was also represented by Mohabir was remanded to prison as the court awaits a probation report and victim impact statement.

The rape convict returns to court on April 6 for sentencing at the Sexual Offences Court in Demerara.
