The Guyana Telephone and Telegraph (GTT) company will show its support for doctors and nurses on the frontline of the COVID-19 fight, by providing these “Guyanese heroes” with free mobile service for “as long as it takes” to bring an end to the pandemic.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Justin Nedd said the gesture is intended to give back and say thank you to these health professionals by making sure they can keep in touch with their families and loved ones, while also strengthening Guyana’s medical response by ensuring that doctors and nurses on the frontline of the effort are always reachable.

Nedd said the offer valued at several million Guyana dollars per month, would be available immediately.

“GTT is pleased to make free mobile phone service available to all registered doctors and nurses as part of our contribution to keeping Guyana safe, and protecting our citizens from COVID-19. We hope this gesture will give these very important frontline health workers one less thing to worry about in these
trying times. We know that their commitment to the medical profession and caring for the sick, takes them away from their families and puts their own lives at risk as we fight this unseen enemy. We have all witnessed the devastation and disruption which COVID-19 has brought to the social, health and
economic wellbeing of the entire world, and so we urge every to join in protecting our health service providers, and each other, through social distancing and approved hygiene practices,” Nedd said.

The CEO said to access GTT’s offer, any doctor or nurse could simply register their information and GTT mobile phone numbers on a list with either the Medical Council of Guyana, or Nurses’ Association as appropriate, and each month, GTT would automatically credit the mobile phone accounts included on
those lists.
