The police are investigating the death of a 43-year-old motorcyclist which occurred on the number 64 Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice around 09:00 hrs this morning.

The deceased has been identified as Keshwardial Hakie of Lot 8 Number 63 Village, Corentyne.

Hakie was riding his motorcycle when he collided with a canter which was being driven by a 43-year-old resident of Albert Street, Corriverton, Berbice.

Guyana Standard has been informed that the driver of the canter truck was proceeding north along the western carriageway while the motorcyclist was proceeding in the opposite direction.

The police said that as the canter truck approached the motorcyclist, he (deceased) turned west to enter a dam on the western side of the road and in the process, the front of the lorry collided with the cycle.

This resulted in the motorcyclist falling onto the roadway and sustained injuries about his body.
He was taken to the Skeldon Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The driver of the canter truck subsequently passed a breathalyzer test. He is in custody assisting with the investigation.
