Divisional Commander, Calvin Brutus, has confirmed that his ranks are currently investigating a mishap which occurred in the Berbice River, Region 10, and has left four persons missing.

According to information received, four family members were travelling in the Berbice River in a small boat when it collided with a bigger vessel. The exact location is unclear at this point.

The accident is reported to have occurred sometime around 21:00hrs—three hours after the countrywide curfew that was imposed to curtail the spread of the coronavirus that has claimed the lives of thousands worldwide and eight locally.

Guyana Standard has been informed that following the collision, all the passengers from the small boat fell into the river. A search was immediately carried out but none of the passengers was found.

Coastguards are currently combing the river.
