The Private Sector Commission (PSC), an accredited local elections observer is yet to find discrepancies between the Statements of Poll (SOPs) and the statements of Recount (SORs) thus far. This is according to the PSC Chairman, Captain Gerry Gouveia, earlier today.

His comments come two days after Party Agents attached to the incumbent regime, the A Partnership for National Unity + Alliance for Change (APNU+AFC), flagged over 15 discrepancies when the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) commenced the recount of the ballots cast in the March 2 General and Regional Elections at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre (ACCC) at Liliendaal, Greater Georgetown.

AFC Executive Member, David Patterson said there were instances where the names of deceased persons appeared as those who voted. Other issues related to persons who would have migrated but were still listed as having voted.

With regards to the matter raised by the APNU+AFC agents regarding deceased persons appearing as those who voted, Gouveia said that is an impossibility.

“That is a serious indictment on GECOM. If that should ever happen, you had to have massive conspiracy between the GECOM staff and one political party, and every other political party would have had to leave the room for that to happen. That is not possible. It is actually, absolutely impossible for I to go into that station and vote for you, or for a dead person to vote. The minute that matter came to my attention, the first day it happened, I said to them: look at the list for that ballot box and you’ll probably find another person with the same name – and so said, so done. There’s another man with the same name in the same area,” Gouveia said.
