A juvenile was yesterday charged with the fatal stabbing of an 18-year-old miner over a female.

The 16-year-old appeared before Magistrate Allan Wilson at the Lethem Magistrate’s Court.

He was not required to plead to the indictable charge, which stated that on July 19, 2020, at Marudi Backdam, he murdered Shadrech Martin. He was remanded to prison until August 27.
Reports are that Martin and the suspect were at a birthday party at Marudi Backdam, imbibing, when a heated argument ensued between them over a female.

During the argument, the suspect pulled out a knife from the waist of his pants and dealt Martin a stab to his right upper chest, causing him to fall to the ground.

Public-spirited citizens then went to Martin’s rescue and rushed him to the Aishalton Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Ranks of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) was summoned on the scene, and the knife which was used to commit the heinous crime was recovered and lodged.
