While the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) government has already indicated its intention to disband the State Asset Recovery Agency (SARA), it is now contemplating what it will do with the over 40 persons that are employed there. Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Anil Nandlall said that this is a concern for the government.

“Our concern is the persons (employees) – not the political fat cats at the top. There are a few of them there working over a million and more dollars each per month. Those are not our concern…Our concerns are the lower staff. There are about 40 staff[ers] in SARA, and if you shut the agency down, you’re putting 40 persons out of work and that is our concern. But those at the top, we have no difficulty in disposing of their contracts,” he said during a press conference today.

Nandlall indicated the government will have to further discuss the alternative routes necessary to avoid the displacement of these employees.
