18-year-old Seon Benjamin of ‘D’ Field, Sophia, Georgetown, was today charged and released on $150,000 bail after being slapped with an armed robbery charge.

The teen appeared before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge, which stated that on September 5, 2020, at Merriman’s Mall, Bourda, while being in the company of another and armed with a gun, he robbed Tifilesha Bond of a cell phone along with gold jewellery valued $1,050,000.

It was reported that on the day in question, about 07:50 hrs, the businesswoman, along with her husband, was about to open their business at Merriman’s Mall when two men on a motorcycle confronted them.

According to information, the teenager who was riding the bike handed his pillion rider a firearm.

It was then that the pillion rider approached the woman and relieved her of her valuables. The duo then made good their escape.

Soon after, the matter was reported to the Alberttown Police Station, and police, on viewing CCTV footage from the area, were able to identify Benjamin.

Further investigation was carried out, and he was arrested for the offense.
An identification parade was conducted, and the victim positively identified him as the person who robbed her.

He will make his next court appearance on October 9, 2020.
