Three men have been taken into custody after they allegedly murdered a gold miner on Friday.

Dead is 26-year-old Kevin Allam of Turn Basin, Port Kaituma, Region One. The incident occurred at about 17:30hrs yesterday at White Water Backdam.

Initial enquiries disclosed that the deceased’s reputed wife was at their shop when the suspects approached her and held her by her hair.

Having observed this, Allam went to her assistance when the other two suspects pounced on him and reportedly dealt him several lashes about his body with a piece of wood until he became motionless.

He was then dragged a short distance away, where one of the suspects took out a knife and slit his throat, whilst another suspect held him down, police said.

Upon completing the wounding, the suspects then proceeded into the shop and removed a quantity of raw gold but did not harm the reputed wife after she pleaded for her life.

Allam was subsequently picked up by the police and escorted to Port Kaituma Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by a Doctor on duty. His body was later escorted to the hospital’s mortuary, where it awaits the Post Mortem Examination (PME).

On Saturday at about 09:00 hrs, police at Port Kaituma, acting upon information received, went to the waterfront and arrested the three suspects, who are presently in Police custody while the investigation continues.
