A 60-year-old, Herstelling, East Bank Demerara man was robbed today at the All Seasons Horse Racing and Sports Betting on Robb Street, Lacytown. The robbery occurred sometime around 15:00hrs.
Terry Persaud of Herstelling Squatting Area, EBD was accosted by an identifiable male who was armed with a handgun.
Investigations revealed that on the date and time mentioned, the victim was at the shop placing bets when the suspect approached him and told him to pass his haversack which contained the cash mentioned.
He refused and the suspect pulled out a handgun from his waist and discharged a round which hit the victim on his right upper thigh. The suspect then grabbed the haversack with its contents and escaped east on Robb Street on a black motorcycle without a registration number that was parked on Robb Street.
The victim was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where he is presently receiving medical attention.
Investigations are in progress.
