The Maritime Administration Department has indicated via a notice in the daily newspapers that the Stena Drill Max will be moved to the Longtail-2 well site within the Stabroek Block of Guyana’s Exclusive Economic Zone to appraisal drilling.

The Longtail discovery was first announced in June 2018. It is ExxonMobil’s eighth oil find and was drilled in a new reservoir, encountering approximately 256 feet (78 meters) of high-quality, oil-bearing sandstone reservoir. The well was safely drilled to 18,057 feet (5,504 meters) depth in 6,365 feet (1,940 meters) of water.

Guyana Standard understands that ExxonMobil’s fleet of contracted drillships in Guyana is set to increase this year to six with the arrival of the Noble Sam Croft in April. The Rystad Energy Offshore Rig tracker, for example, shows that three drillships are currently located in the greater Liza area performing development drilling activity. The recently arrived Stena DrillMAX is positioned for works the Longtail-2 appraisal well, while the Stena Carron drillship, which recently concluded drilling Bulletwood-1, has now spud the Jabillo-1 exploration well in the Canje block. Following this, the Stena Carron will move back to Stabroek to drill the Koebi-1 well.

The Stabroek Block is 6.6 million acres (26,800 square kilometers). ExxonMobil’s subsidiary, Esso Exploration and Production Guyana Limited (EEPGL) is the operator and holds 45 percent interest in the offshore. Hess Guyana Exploration Ltd. holds 30 percent interest and CNOOC/Nexen Petroleum Guyana Limited holds 25 percent interest.
