Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL) has partnered with the Civil Defence Commission (CDC) to send humanitarian aid to St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), whose citizens are affected by the eruption of the La Soufrière volcano.

The company will be sending 10,000 cases of its bottled 20oz Diamond Mineral Water, as well as 500 cases of 1.14 litres alcohol-based Environ Sanitising Cleaner. The CDC has already received from the company 2,000 cases of water and 500 cases of Environ which are loaded and ready to be shipped to the island.

The remaining cases of water will be shipped in the coming days. This humanitarian aid is valued at GYD 13.3 million.

DDL’s Chairman, Komal Samaroo, commenting on the donations, said, “Our thoughts are with the people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines as they navigate this untimely disaster. Our assistance is just one step towards ensuring that affected citizens have access to clean drinking water and sanitising agents to help them cope with this natural disaster.”

A UNICEF report has indicated that between 16,000 and 20,000 people, including children, have been evacuated due to the eruption of La Soufriere, last Friday, April 9, 2021. A total of 62 shelters were opened on the island, hosting at least 3,200 people
