Some 163,543 Guyanese have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccines, says Health Minister Dr Frank Anthony. This figure represents 33.6% of the adult population. The Minister also revealed that 21,203 persons have received their second dose, thereby making them fully immunised. This figure translates to 4.4% of the adult population.

The Minister is appealing to Guyanese, who received their first dose, to return in the time stipulated, to receive their second jab. He also advised that first dose receipts pay attention to their vaccination cards, noting that return time may vary depending on the vaccine they received.

“We want to encourage everyone, who got their first dose, to come back and get their second dose. Because, as you’ve realised, the AstraZeneca vaccines we had given out initially, it takes about 12 weeks for someone to come back for the second dose. And so, quite a few of them are falling due and we want to make that special appeal to ensure that everyone who got their first dose – especially with the AstraZeneca – to come back and get their second dose. We also know that for those who received their Sputnik V or Sinopharm vaccines, by now, the second dose would have fallen due as well, and we want them to check their vaccination cards to make sure they know the date that they have to come back to get their second doses. Because with those two vaccines, there is a shorter timeframe, its four weeks,” the Minister said.
