According to Guyana’s Health Minister, Dr Frank Anthony, there are 134 persons hospitalised with COVID-19 countrywide, with 89 patients alone at the Infectious Disease Hospital, Liliendaal, East Coast Demerara. There are also over 30 patients in that facility’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Additionally, there are 14 maternal cases, with six at the Liliendaal facility and eight at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC). In total, there are about 76 persons with severe symptoms receiving respiratory assistance through oxygen intake.

Minister Anthony also reported that Guyana recorded 159 cases within the last 24 hours, taking the number of active cases in the country to 3,798.

Over the last 24 hours, about 2,500 adults received vaccines, taking the number of first dose recipients to 371,007. This translated to 72.3 per cent of the adult population. Meanwhile, some 228,262 (44.5 per cent) have been fully vaccinated.

In terms of child vaccination, the Minister reported that 26,113 adolescents, or 35.8% of that cohort, have received first dose of the Pfizer vaccine, with 15,879 (21.8%) receiving both doses.
