Guyana continues to record high number of COVID-19 infections, with the Health Ministry urging persons living in ‘hotspots’ to take added precautions.

Health Minister, Dr. Frank Anthony, during his update today, noted that several villages in Region Three, have consistently been recording high numbers. These villages include Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo (EBE) with 99 cases, La Parfaite Harmonie, 67; Vreed-en-Hoop, 60; Parika, EBE, 59; Crane, 58; Pouderoyen, 57; Cornelia Ida and Zeelugt, 54 cases each; Hague, 46 cases; and Patentia with 30.

Villages along the East Bank Demerara, Region Four, have also been listed as hotspots, including Diamond, with 60 active cases and Grove with 57. The eastern coast of Demerara has also been recording high rates of infection daily, with Mon Repos, Haslington, Non-Pareil, Victoria, Lusignan, and Paradise accounting for more than 130 active cases alone.

Several wards in the Capital have also been flagged as hotspots, these include Kitty, 45; Sophia, 91; Campbellville, 43; Cummings Lodge, 3; and West Ruimveldt, 30.

Finally, there are 27 cases in New Amsterdam, Region Six, and 40 in Bartica.

Wismar in Linden, Region 10 has recorded 71 cases, Amelia’s Ward with 32 and McKenzie, 20.
