Kwame Jowanza, 35, a taxi driver of Lot 2885 Retch-Door-Zee, La Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara was arrested on January 3, 2022 for a series of robberies under arms.

Acting on information received, a party of policemen went to the accused’s home and a search was carried out in his presence, where the following articles were found: 14 ladies handbags, one fake license number plate, two Samsung cellphones without sim card, one tablet, and one Bluetooth speaker.

On January 4, 2022 at 17:00hrs, an identification parade at the La Grange Police Station was held and the accused was positively identified by the victims to be the person who robbed them.

He was told of the allegation, cautioned and he admitted to committing the offences. He was then placed into custody and charged today for three counts of Robbery Under Arms and one count of Larceny from the Person.

He appeared at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court Magistrate Miss Ally-Seepaul where the indictable charges were read to him and he pleaded guilty to each offence. Hence he was sentenced to six years, six months imprisonment, which will be served consecutively.
