Moments after he and another escaped a moving prisoner transport vehicle, Kevin Velladares boarded a taxi and went to the Brickdam Police Station where he surrendered to police.

Confirming this today was the Director of the Guyana Police Force (GPF)’s Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) Mark Ramotar. He said that the escape occurred sometime between 16:00hrs and 16:10hrs in the vicinity of Sparendaam, East Coast Demerara.

The confirmation came one day after media operatives were “reminded” to not “spread false information” where queries were made about the escape.

Ramotar said this morning that the two prisoners were, at the time, being transported from Linden en route to the Lusignan Prison.

The surrendered prisoner told cops that he and the other prisoner, Keanon Harry escaped by breaking a lock. A wanted bulletin was issued for his arrest. Guyana Standard was subsequently informed that Harry turned himself in at the Leonora Police Station this afternoon.
