The family of a 51-year-old man are left with more questions than answers after a concrete reservoir exploded on Friday morning killing him and severely injuring another man.

The Guyana Standard understands that the men were contracted by a woman to clean her tank when tragedy struck. The explosion reportedly killed 51 year old Oliver France and injured 31 year old Jamal Rose who remains critical in the hospital.

Preliminary investigations suggested that the explosion might have been caused by Gasoline which was being used by the two men to clean the reservoir. An official investigation has been launched in the incident.

Delma Lowenfield, the mother of Rose explained that since the incident, she has not seen her son whom she was informed has received major burns to his body.

Meanwhile, the family of France was thrown into a state of shock as news spread to his relatives about his demise. A relative of the deceased told reporters that when they visited the scene, blood was seen among the debris including the scent of gasoline.

“A neighbour of the woman they went to do work for said that she heard a loud explosion. She said when she went outside all she saw was blood and my cousin on the floor bleeding out… People tried to save him but from what we were told he was badly burned and bleeding heavily. I don’t even know what to think about all this because I saw him yesterday.” The relative said.

France’s Sister-in-law, Crystal Ward explained that when they received the news, they immediately went to the scene of the incident. “When we got there at the house all we saw was blood and stuff all over the place we didn’t get to see them they were already taken to the hospital. My mother and I went to the station to see if we get answers and she came and told us that Oliver died. I couldn’t believe it.” Ward said.

France leaves to mourn his wife and five children.
